The recent educational and Freetown historical tour organized by our team for schools such us Sierra Leone Grammar School, Annie Walsh Memorial School, Modern High School, St Josephs Secondary School and Vine Memorial School. It was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the students who participated. The tour was designed to provide a meaningful and immersive experience, with the goal of deepening the students’ understanding of Sierra Leonean history and inspiring them to become future leaders.
Throughout the duration of the tour, students had the opportunity to engage with the rich cultural heritage of Sierra Leone. They visited significant historical sites like:
- The Cotton Tree: A symbol of freedom and one of Freetown’s most iconic sites.
- The National Museum: A journey through Sierra Leone’s diverse cultural and historical artefacts.
- St. John’s Maroon Church: A historic reminder of the Maroon settlers and their role in shaping Freetown.
- King’s Yard Gate: A poignant stop that sheds light on the journey of freed slaves.
- Sierra Leone National Railway Museum: A rare glimpse into the history of Sierra Leone’s railway history, featuring beautifully restored locomotives and carriages, including the carriage used by Queen Elizabeth II during her visit in 1961.
- Old Fourah Bay College Building: Once the oldest western-style university in West Africa, this historic structure in Cline Town stands as a symbol of academic excellence and Sierra Leone’s rich educational history.
- St. George’s Cathedral: One of the oldest Anglican churches in West Africa, this architectural gem has stood in Freetown for over 200 years.
- Big Market: A vibrant market offering a rich display of local crafts, traditional textiles, and artisanal products, reflecting the cultural diversity of Sierra Leone., interacted with local communities, and learned about the struggles and triumphs that have played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s history. This hands-on experience allowed the students to develop a profound appreciation for the country and its people.
One of the primary objectives of the tour, organized in continuation of our 20th Anniversary was to cultivate a strong connection between individuals and Sierra Leone. Our company firmly believes in the importance of fostering a sense of belonging and pride in one’s homeland, and it strives to instill this sentiment in all those who participate in its activities.
The tour itinerary was carefully curated to provide students with a comprehensive overview of Sierra Leonean history and culture. In addition to exploring historical sites, the tour also emphasized the importance of community engagement and service.
